Mehdi

As a Site manager, Mehdi knows how important it is to continuously optimise processes and react flexibly to new situations. In this interview, he reports on what is important in this regard.

How does it feel to weigh 45,000 tons?

Pleasantly light! It feels good to be able to do your job and do something for the environment at the same time. It's no secret that we want to make a return - but if we do this while helping the environment more than harming it, then we're way ahead of many of our competitors. First and foremost, we are trying to operate more sustainably to advance our own development and goals. But we shouldn't be afraid to involve our builders as well. The topic of sustainability is still abstract for many companies, but we can already show concrete results.

Why were you chosen to be the face of building materials recycling?

I see myself first and foremost as a representative of the North Rhine-Westphalia Directorate, which is known for its forward thinking and implementation of ideas - especially in the area of building materials recycling. The fact that our Head of Directorate Thomas Nyhsen chose me in particular is also a signal to the younger generation: we have it in our hands to drive developments forward and thus positively influence the future.

Why is the topic of sustainability important to you?

The topic of sustainability has become extremely important in recent years and also takes on great significance in private conversations. No one knows how things will continue and how the environment will develop over the next few decades. Sustainability has also become an issue for our clients, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

What particularly excites you about your job?

The diversity of our projects and the fact that I work with so many different people every day - both internally and externally. Completing a project successfully and seeing the end product is a source of pride for all of us - from skilled workers to Division Managers. The joy is particularly great when it is a project that has really challenged you.

What makes STRABAG a good enabler of progress?

In my view, the most important thing is the pursuit of change and the optimisation of workflows and processes within the Group. Everyone knows the saying "Never change a winning team", often used in connection with soccer. However, anyone who knows anything about soccer knows that this thought does not correspond to reality. It's not so much about replacing team members as it is about constantly adapting attitudes, mentality, work processes, techniques and, above all, tactics to the times and current circumstances. We manage to do that quite well.
