Christoph, Project Manager at STRABAG International

Find out how he overcomes challenges, promotes teamwork and drives progress in a flood protection project in Oman.

Current Position:
International Project Manager

Can you give us an insight into your current project in Oman?

Of course. We are building a flood defence dam here in Oman. Although we are in the desert, we experience heavy rainfall here at times. The purpose of the dam is to protect the residential areas.

What does your working day look like, especially in terms of the flexibility you need in your position?

I've been on this project for a year, but I've been in Oman for 16 years in total. Flexibility plays a big role, especially when it comes to living abroad with your family. That is very important to me. I made it clear from the start that I never wanted to live away from my family. STRABAG has always actively supported this.

How do you deal with challenges to ensure the success of the project?

The weather conditions in Oman are challenging. We have a heat break at the height of summer, which means we can't work at lunchtime. Careful planning is crucial here. Teamwork is also very important in order to overcome challenges together.

  • My approach is to provide an open communication platform. We try to solve challenges together, which promotes a positive team atmosphere. This is crucial for success in the long term.

As an experienced project manager, you certainly have some tips for those considering an international career. What advice would you give them?

My tip would be to have no concerns and to be open to the countries and cultural differences. It's important to get involved, even if you're far away from home.
