STRABAG
Current position
International project manager

Can you give us an insight into your current project in Oman?

Of course. We are building a flood protection dam here in Oman. Although we are in the desert, we regularly experience heavy rainfall here. The purpose of the dam is to protect the residential areas.

What does your day-to-day work look like, especially in terms of the flexibility you need in your position?

I've been on this project for a year, but I've been in Oman for 16 years in total. Flexibility plays a big role, especially when it comes to living abroad with your family. That is very important to me. I made it clear from the start that I never wanted to live away from my family. STRABAG has always actively supported this.

How do you deal with challenges to ensure the success of the project?

The weather conditions in Oman are challenging. We have a heat break in midsummer, which means we can't work at lunchtime. Careful planning is crucial here. Teamwork is also very important to overcome challenges together.

  • My approach is to offer an open communication platform. We try to solve challenges together, which promotes a positive team atmosphere. This is crucial for success in the long term.

As an experienced project manager, you certainly have some tips for those considering an international career. What advice would you give them?

My tip would be to have no reservations and to be open to the countries and cultural differences. It is important to get involved, even if you are far away from home.
