Carina

As a Group Leader at the Saalfelden quarry in Austria, Carina gets the ball rolling every day when it comes to sustainability. In the interview, she reveals, among other things, why the topic is also important to her in her private life.

Project:
Saalfelden Quarry
Measure:
Generating own electricity by weight of stones
CO2 saved:
141,000 kilograms

Are you also committed to more sustainability in a private context?

YES, because sustainability starts with each and every one of us. Everyone can make a contribution. It's not always about thinking big. You can also set an example with small steps.

I'm not a do-gooder on a grand scale, but I do try to do my part to conserve resources. That means buying regional products as much as possible. Eggs from my neighbour's farm store or Tyrolean broccoli from the supermarket.

But also saving water when showering, separating waste, using cotton bags and reusable fruit and vegetable bags when shopping. Basically, moving away from the throwaway mentality: conscious and thoughtful purchasing of clothing, IT equipment and, for example, a weekly menu.

Why is this topic important to you?

  • The existing resources should be used carefully in order to preserve a world worth living in for future generations.

What excites you about your job?

I can use and deepen my existing knowledge, and at the same time I have the opportunity to develop professionally and personally. I also appreciate the exchange of ideas and the teamwork.
