Airport and track construction: site manager for major projects

28 Aug 2024
Site manager Nora is particularly enthusiastic about large-scale projects that impress with their versatility. Whether civil engineering, earthworks or concrete slab construction, our colleague loves a challenge and masters it successfully. One example of this is Nora's work at Nuremberg Airport, where she played a central role in the project implementation.

Nora actually had other plans: After completing her bachelor's degree in civil engineering, she wanted to go to Australia. But then the coronavirus pandemic disrupted her plans. So what now? She applied to us at short notice and quickly received a positive response. "I'm still glad I got this opportunity back then," recalls our colleague. That's how she started as a construction manager at STRABAG in 2020.

Open communication is particularly important in this job. That's why Nora's motto "address issues openly" is essential for successfully implementing projects. Because when it comes to keeping to tight schedules, this is only possible through good communication, organization, successful interaction and the support of the construction site team.

  • Through good work preparation, I try to plan new projects with foresight and treat materials in a resource-saving way, for example by making the best possible use of leftover stock from previous projects.

As site manager, Nora keeps an eye on everything: She is mainly responsible for ensuring that the construction site is organized and built according to plan. She ensures that deadlines and costs are met and is also responsible for communication between employees and clients, with whom she coordinates everything. When challenges arise, Nora works with the team to find solutions.

Site management at Nuremberg Airport

Well prepared: "Through good work preparation, I try to plan new projects with foresight and treat materials in a in a resource-saving way, for example by making the best possible use of leftover stock from previous projects," says Nora, who was responsible for construction management and invoicing for our project at Nuremberg Airport.

Here, STRABAG replaced the old concrete pavement on a 13,000 square meter section of the main apron. The concrete for the new concrete pavement was produced on site in the company's own mixing plant. This was the highlight of the construction site for Nora!

Another special feature: the old concrete surface was processed into recycled material in a mobile crushing plant, which could then be reused on other construction sites within the airport.

Track construction in Munich

The site manager is currently working on a track construction project in Munich's city center, which is due to be completed by the end of the summer vacations, a tight schedule that requires good time management. And as usual, Nora is tackling this project with energy and determination.

Because: "I really enjoy learning new things all the time," she says about her first track construction project, "and this versatility is simply what makes major projects so special for me."

Success factor: Daring to try something new

For our colleague, Work On Progress means constantly setting herself new goals, seeking out challenges and being open to new approaches: "Just try things out," says Nora, demonstrating her joy in constantly learning and taking on new tasks.

With her goal orientation and commitment, site manager Nora masters even major challenges and thus makes a significant contribution to the success of the projects.
