Ever since I was a boy, I’ve always wanted to work with my hands.

Name:
Mick
Position:
Site Supervisor for ZÜBLIN Ground Engineering UK

How long have you been at ZÜBLIN?

I joined ZÜBLIN Ground Engineering as a Foreman in June 2021, where I worked on the construction of two shafts done by diaphragm wall at South Ruislip for HS2 and a deep shaft at Ladycross on our Woodsmith project for Anglo American.
I also worked on the excavation of cross passages at Silvertown Tunnel for Transport for London, where we used ground freezing to install and manage the ground treatment of 4 of the 7 cross passages that will provide emergency routes and utilities corridors between the two tunnels.

As a Foreman, I look after 4 or 5 groups of 6/7 workers each. I’d say my priority (and that of everyone else on site) is safety – I’m responsible for making sure people are safe on site. I run the start of shift briefing, which involves myself, operatives, and other supervisors. These briefings are when I’ll go through our tasks for the day and how we’ll go about them and answer any questions people may have.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m not much of an office person! I enjoy being out on site, making sure things are done right the first time, reaching our daily, weekly, and monthly production targets, and surpassing them where possible.
I genuinely look forward to working everyday with the guys on site, the camaraderie we have and how we find ways to make the rigours of day-to-day work enjoyable. I enjoy mentoring young people, looking after them, providing a healthy working environment for them to thrive in and seeing them progress in their careers.
