STRABAG
Current position
Sub-Agent

What does a sub-agent do at STRABAG?

Sub agents are like mini project managers. They bring together all the different functions. That means commercial, planning, delivering, designing, etc. For example, I'm helping to bring together a lot of people who have different functions in order to deliver a bridge. The job is a mix of engineering and communication and management.

What project are you currently working on?

My current project is working on a section of HS2, which is High Speed Two. So it's a line from London to Birmingham and it's one of the biggest construction projects in Europe. It's not a job where you're sitting alone at a computer typing away. I sit amongst my team so that if I or someone else comes up with ideas, we can discuss them directly.

  • Everyone is very respectful of people's ideas and opinions. There's no such thing as a bad idea.

What is your favorite element of your job?

I love being on site. I think that's one of the best things about the job, that you're not just in the office. Any time there's something out there that needs my attention, I can just pop down. I go out and ask a lot of questions because there's so much experience out there with the people working on site and so I go out and I ask lots of questions.

Is there a skill that you need for your job?

I would say organisation is really important, being able to take initiative and get things moving. You have to be personable, I think that's a really key skill, and you have to be able to deal with all sorts of different people from all walks of life, which is also the best part of the job
