What would you say your job is about?

I would say - in short - putting together a construction program for complicated construction projects. I have to work out how to build the project, how long it will take, how many people are needed and what it will cost.

Is there a skill that helps in working in your role?

Yes, you definitely need to be flexible to change and willing to act on that.

How important is your team for successful projects?

I would absolutely get nowhere without my team! They are fantastic and from a variety of different backgrounds which helps a lot with the challenging projects we work on together.  My job as a planning manager is to bring all those creative minds together and extract the right information from the right people.

What do you like most about your job?

Getting stuck, because if you didn’t get stuck, you wouldn’t have the opportunity for a eureka moment. This way you learn a lot for future projects.

  • We are constantly trying to figure out a better way of doing things.

What career advice would you give your younger self?

Keep asking the silly questions and don’t be afraid to ask something you’re unsure of, because you look a lot more silly if you pretend to know the answer.
