How do you look back on the construction of the Innovation Center?
I am proud to have been involved in the creation of a building that protects the environment and sets new standards in the Group by using building materials that conserve resources and have a low carbon footprint. It was an extraordinary project, especially as we only focused on sustainability shortly before construction. We had negotiated the general contractor agreement ready to go, had it ready to sign, and were looking forward to finally successfully completing this major milestone.
But just then we were given the task of investigating measures to improve sustainability for construction, operation and potential later dismantling. That set us back a good three months and required some additional effort on our part. But it taught us a tremendous amount and gave us new knowledge that will benefit us on future projects. So, all in all, it was absolutely worth it, and every time I see my figure, namely 1,050 tons of CO2 saved, I'm impressed anew by what my team and I achieved. It's a great feeling!
