Apprenticeship, studies, responsibility: Michaela's path at STRABAG

Many young people are faced with the decision: Apprenticeship or studying? Michaela went for both. Her path began as an apprentice industrial clerk and led her through a part-time degree course to a variety of tasks including responsibility for young talent.

After graduating from high school, Michaela wasn't sure which career she would be interested in in the long term. "I wanted to start something and see it through," she recalls. The apprenticeship as an industrial clerk gave her the opportunity to gain many insights: "With this apprenticeship, I wasn't tied down and was able to experience different departments," she recalls.

A pre-internship allowed her to gain her first insights into the company and make contacts even before the official start of her apprenticeship. She was particularly influenced by her instructor at the time: "She was a role model for me, shaped me and always supported me," says Michaela.

  • The apprenticeship was an important development phase for me. I experienced how valuable it is to have a supportive hand to help you build on your strengths and work on your weaknesses.

Career and studies? Both a challenge and an opportunity!

After her apprenticeship, our colleague decided to start a degree in Business Administration alongside her job. She wanted to find out for herself whether studying is really that much more demanding, as many people say. These special circumstances required an individual solution. In this case, it was flexible working hours and the opportunity to work part-time. "That was a huge amount of freedom and great support," emphasizes Michaela.

Motivation: Promoting the next generation

In addition to her commercial tasks, Michaela coordinates the deployment of the apprentices, draws up apprenticeship plans and is available as a contact person. How did this come about? "I always had points of contact with our apprentices and at some point I realized that I would like to take this into my own hands," she says.

Experience digitalization as progress

Another important aspect of Michaela's work is digitalization. As the digitalization officer in her department, she is committed to making processes more efficient. "Compared to my apprenticeship, when I still spent a lot of time filing, digital daily construction reports or delivery note management are real advances that save time and resources," says our colleague.

Tips for young talents

Michaela has clear advice for young people who want to pursue a similar career: "Do something that interests you. Have the courage and ask questions if you don't understand something." She emphasizes that in addition to salary, support from superiors can also be crucial.

Michaela's path shows: Effort pays off! With commitment, courage and the right support, you can achieve a lot here. And who knows, maybe your career will soon start at STRABAG too?
