Our colleagues are as diverse as the areas of work in IT at STRABAG: Anja Kreiner is a team leader and works in the IT Competence Center at STRABAG BRZV. In the blog post, she reports on her career path in the Group, her experiences as an employee and what she particularly appreciates about her job.

When I started at STRABAG in the "IT department" in the 90s, women or female colleagues were still the exception in this area. There was only one other female colleague besides me, and you always had the feeling that you had to prove yourself. Those were different times. At that time, there was only one fax machine at the Cologne site, communication with foreign construction sites was still done via telex and PC programs were transferred using floppy disks. My first rollout: from typewriter to PC. When the color printer arrived, it was a real sensation. But it's not only technology that has developed over the years, but also the number of women in this industry. The younger generations don't have a problem with women in management positions, which is great.

After a few internal IT changes, I finally came to the Competence Center, i.e. 2nd Level Support. I was offered the position of team leader back in 2002. At the time, I deliberately turned it down - for fear that I wouldn't make it. I overcame that fear. Not least because we work together here as a team and support each other.

It's important to me that my colleagues learn from each other and think outside the box. Even though my teams are spread internationally across Tyrol, Stuttgart, Cologne and Zagreb and have sometimes only seen each other digitally, it's as if everyone has known each other forever. We also place a lot of emphasis on exchange and feedback, and you're allowed to ask as many questions as you want until you feel you're sure of what you're doing.

I've always really enjoyed working at STRABAG and have traveled a lot. For example, I trained our internal IT ticket system together with a colleague in Denmark, Zagreb, Moscow and Chile. To this day, the colleagues and the variety of tasks are particularly important to me. User contact, for example, is very important to me and I appreciate the many development opportunities that the Group offers us. I have never thought about changing jobs. We have so many opportunities here and I never had the feeling that it might be better somewhere else. Over the years, of course, there have been other offers, but I made a conscious decision not to change - STRABAG is simply my home.
