STRABAG Camp[us] Ybbs: the most modern apprenticeship training in Austria
"The start of professional life is a big step and it is therefore important for us to be able to welcome apprentices to Camp[us] Ybbs right at the beginning of their training. Throughout the training, we focus on the latest working methods and construction technology. But we are particularly concerned with strengthening the "we" feeling. The apprentices work on construction sites all over Austria, but here they should be able to come together and have a good time together away from the classroom - just like at a camp," emphasizes Gerd Egger, head of STRABAG Camp[us] Ybbs.
Community and innovative spirit
In the future, each apprentice will spend about four weeks in Ybbs, in addition to training at the vocational school. During these weeks, the newcomers will gain practice in the use of tools and the work steps on the construction site. In two large workshops, they work as a team on the various tasks of the respective apprenticeship occupation that await them in their daily work on the construction site. In addition, the program also covers innovative content that is not yet included in the traditional curriculum. Apprentices have the opportunity, for example, to train how to operate construction machinery on state-of-the-art simulators. During their training, the young people live on site in the apprentices' quarters. A fitness room, sports fields and recreation rooms are available for leisure activities.
Construction industry - boom and shortage of skilled workers
In order to be able to handle the ongoing boom, STRABAG is continuously looking for new employees. In the apprenticeship area, around 100 apprentices are sought each year. There are currently a total of 383 apprentices throughout Austria. The majority are trained in the classic construction trades such as building construction, civil engineering, concrete construction and paving. However, apprenticeships are also filled in construction-related units, such as construction machinery technology, building technology, metal technology and drywall construction.
Lifelong learning
Successful completion of the apprenticeship is the goal, but not the end of the time at Camp[us]. In the future, employees from the commercial sector will be able to complete further training courses in Ybbs on an ongoing basis. Construction methods are continuously being developed, and new, innovative materials are coming onto the market with regard to the ecologization of construction. Under the heading of lifelong learning, STRABAG employees are therefore to be continuously brought up to the state of the art.
